Tim Yates is an award winning instrument builder, sound-artist and musician who makes, builds and finds instruments of all kinds for performance and installation. He has shown his work widely including at the Tate Modern, the V&A and Xi'an International Maker Faire. He is Founder and Director of Hackoustic and runs theĀ Research and Development program at Drake Music, a charity working at the intersection of music, technology and Disability. He works as a producer for Music Tech Fest, helping deliver hackathons internationaly, and is a visiting lecturer at Ravensbourne College of Art and Design. As an educator, workshop leader and instrument builder he has worked with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Amsterdam Conservatorium of Music and the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra.
He recently won the presitgious International Sound Awards 2019 with Loopfree, an accessible wireless looper, built in collaboration with musician DJArthro and Vahakn Matossian of Human Instruments. The project also won the KTH Innovation Music Tech Award at Music Tech Fest 2018.
