Capacitative MIDI: Sunday 27th September 2015
This month we were lucky enough to have a visit from Charles Matthews who told us about the amazing Augmented Gamelan that he builds and performs with. We’re trying to find a slot for him to bring some of them along and do a presentation in the near future, so stay tuned for that. In order to whet your appetite here are some of his wondrous sounds:
We also spent some more time working on capacitative sensors. Tim and Lucia are building a MIDI controller powered by the incredibly useful MPR121 capacitative touch sensor along with an Arduino Uno. They’re working on making a fully functional MIDI controller that can play any softsynth, or for that matter any MIDI controlled software. Excellent progress was made and a fully working version is only a week or two away. They plan to release the source code and instructions as soon as possible:
There was also a chance to take another look at the controller for Tim’s new glockenspiel which also uses the same capacitative touch hardware. We’ll run a dedicated workshop on these in the near future so that Tim and Lucia can share their experiences working with this hardware.
